Why power our damaged FR5 controller before anyone checks it?

A shifted crate support has dented our delivered FR5 controller enclosure, and the seller says to switch it on; I have left it unpowered, retained the packaging and arrival photographs, and asked for a competent condition assessment before any power test, but what should that assessment request identify?
