Lay both inserts and both part families out with the designer and loader first. Mark which wrong combinations physically fit. It's a cheap comparison, and it will tell you more than debating label size around a screenshot.

Our two connector inserts both fit the carrier backwards

We have all four on the bench. Both inserts fit either way; the wrong housing sits partly down in one pocket and looks nearly right from above.
16分That nearly-right one is the unpleasant case. I'd photograph the actual seating from the loader's side, not just the flattering overhead view everyone keeps using.
7分Who chooses the recipe, Bruno? If one person changes the insert and another starts the job later, a label and a verbal message have quite a lot to carry.
20分Setter changes the insert. Operator chooses the job after changeover. Sometimes they're the same person, but the process can't depend on that.
14分Then distinguish orientation, installed family and selected recipe in the design review. Mechanical location may prevent reversal without identifying which family is fitted; a recipe label may name the requested family without checking the installed one.
8分Aisha, yes. I wouldn't order an identification device before that bench comparison, though. There may be a simple mechanical improvement worth doing regardless of the electronic check.
17分And keep the markings readable once it's fitted. I've seen a perfectly legible part number disappear under the very clamp meant to hold the part.
1分Harish, I'm happy with the bench comparison first. I just don't want 'cannot fit backwards' to become the answer to 'which family is installed'. They're different questions for the lesson too.
14分Agreed. Bruno, can the controls owner describe what should happen if the installed family cannot be read, rather than only if it reads as the wrong family?
17分I have asked. Their draft only covers a recognised mismatch. It says nothing about unreadable or missing identity, so those are open cases now.
12分Also include removing an insert after a correct check. Otherwise the old confirmation may hang around while somebody swaps the hardware beneath it.
18分The designer has proposed asymmetric location for orientation. Controls is looking at installed-family identification separately. No method chosen yet. The label move is included either way, thanks Anika.
16分A label that stays visible. Modest ambition, surprisingly useful.
10分For the eventual walkthrough, let the operator encounter a mismatch without the designer naming the cause first. I want to know whether the display tells them what is wrong and who handles it.
23分We've added the wrong family, reversal, unreadable identity, removal after checking and restart to the review examples. The nearly seated wrong housing stays in the physical comparison as well.
12分Does that restart example include a different insert being fitted while the application is off? Restoring yesterday's confirmed family would be particularly misleading then.
9分And keep a correct changeover in the comparison, Bruno. A solution that confuses the ordinary job will encourage people to invent shortcuts, even if it spots every carefully staged mistake.
