Cannot approve the bracket nest while samples rock between its stops

I have five steel sensor brackets for our FR10 nest check. Three sit down, two rock diagonally. The proposed clamp flattens the rocking ones. I need to decide whether the contacts are wrong before the stronger clamp becomes the answer by default.

Which contacts set the bracket position on the drawing? I'd map those first and compare where each sample actually touches, because 'five surfaces fit in CAD' doesn't explain what the real bracket is supposed to sit against.

Three bottom pads, rear face and a side stop. One flange touches the rear face before the third bottom pad meets the part.

Does that happen on both rocking brackets?

Are those brackets within the drawing requirements for the relevant surfaces? You need that alongside the contact observations before deciding whether the nest should accommodate them or the incoming parts need attention.

Both rocking ones catch there. Quality is measuring all five. We haven't accepted or rejected the parts from the bench fit alone.

The clamp makes them look seated, but I can see the thin flange move as it closes. That's why I stopped the bigger-clamp enquiry.

Does the flange spring back when the clamp opens?

Yes, on the bench samples. Same rocking position returns. I don't have a force measurement, just the movement we can see.

How would an operator know it hadn't seated before the clamp hid the problem? I'm asking because the handover often assumes the fixture makes the choice for them, and this one seems to be concealing it.

They wouldn't with the proposed checks. We only had a clamp-closed indication. The locating design needs sorting before we decide how to check seating.

Exactly the gap I was worried about. Get the operator in when the revised design is on the bench, so you can see whether the seating check is actually usable.

Quality found all five within the relevant part tolerances. The designer is reviewing whether the rear contact conflicts with the intended bottom location across that variation.

Has the designer identified which surfaces should locate and which only need clearance? That decision should make the revised contact scheme easier to explain and inspect.

Would a marked section through the catching flange help that discussion? Your description is clear, but the next person reviewing it won't have these five samples in their hands.

Keep the two troublesome samples for the next check.

They are tagged and retained. The revised drawing distinguishes locating contacts from clearance faces, and includes the section Anil suggested. We're waiting for a revised bench insert.

All five sit consistently in the revised insert before clamping. More samples and the retention check are still planned. Bigger clamp hasn't been needed for this bench fit.

Did the operator get to try the seating check on that insert? That's the bit I'd still like to hear about.
