our bracket inspection sheet stops at unclamping

I'm helping plan an FR10 bracket cell and have inherited a folder that manages to say aligned, released and requires correction without identifying the measured feature. The layout proposal has already removed the old correction bench. Efficient use of floor space, assuming nobody needs it. How do I establish what that bench actually did before treating its removal as a saving?

Our folder mixed loose-part measurements with fit-up checks; have you found an operator who can point to the feature the correction changed?

Former operator says the two mounting faces were checked against a bench gauge after release. He remembers correcting some parts, but not which production batches needed it.

Find that gauge and its drawing reference, then ask quality what it measured; a remembered correction step is a good lead but a poor timing estimate

Does the existing record identify whether the failed dimension was checked before or after correction? I would worry about comparing two different stages.

Ella, the failed readings precede correction. Final sheet is separate and only has a batch number, no individual part link. Callum, gauge is in stores with a handwritten label but no drawing reference.

Any asset number under the gauge label?

Yes, one stamped underneath. Quality is tracing it. Thank you, Liam; I'd only photographed the top.

We had much the same missing-middle problem. The important conversation was with the person planning labour, because they'd already taken straightening out of the estimate. Tell yours the bench question is still open while quality traces the gauge.

Glad it had one. Our labels tend to outlive their glue.

Leo, have they traced the gauge number yet? Interested whether it belongs to the bracket revision you're carrying forward

It belongs to revision B. Proposed bracket is D, with a changed mounting-face requirement. The gauge cannot be assumed suitable. Planning has reinstated the correction step as an unresolved allowance, not a confirmed operation.

Who will choose the current-part measurement method for revision D? It sounds as though the old gauge cannot answer the new acceptance question.

Quality owns the measurement method, with welding and tooling defining a traceable comparison through fit-up, welding, release and any correction. No result yet. The bench stays on the provisional layout.

That's enough to stop the vanishing-bench saving for now. Come back with the current-part result; I'd like to hear whether the old routine survives or was tied to revision B.
