Connector inserts that fit the wrong way round

I put the two proposed FR10 connector inserts beside the quotation and could barely tell them apart. Either appears to fit the carrier backwards. Before I buy the tooling, I want a changeover check that connects the installed insert with the selected recipe. A larger printed name would help me, but would not stop the wrong combination.

On a fixture I inherited, the big label stayed with the carrier while the small insert changed. Everyone could read the label perfectly. Put the identification on the bit that actually changes, and ask the designer whether reversal can be physically prevented.

That is exactly where the proposed label sits. The inserts have separate part numbers on the drawing but no permanent identification in the quote.

Can the reversed insert actually seat on all its intended contacts, or does it just go into the opening?

It goes into the opening. I have not checked all the contacts, so fully seated backwards was too strong a description.

Then ask tooling to demonstrate the difference. A label won't explain a partly seated insert to someone who thinks it is home because the top looks level.

The handover needs an answer for an unreadable or missing identity too. On our inspection screens the awkward cases became workarounds because the happy path was the only one anyone had explained.

Also removal after a valid selection. Does the draft retain permission when the insert is taken out? That matters even if the same insert is returned.

Luis, who is meant to settle an unreadable identity in your example, rather than just telling the operator to call someone?

Our shift lead owns that first review, with quality deciding uncertain item disposition and maintenance handling the tooling fault. For Jonas's insert, those names should come from his own tooling and controls handover, not be borrowed from mine.

Designer checked the samples: the reversed insert catches a shoulder before reaching its locating faces. They propose an asymmetric locating feature to make that obstruction obvious, plus an insert identity read that must agree with the recipe. The current software draft retains the old confirmation after removal.

Removal needs to invalidate that confirmation. Has the programmer included power interruption between identification and the next job in the proposed checks?

I like making the wrong orientation impossible to seat, but don't let that replace the family check. Your other insert may be the right way round and still entirely wrong for the connector.

Both are in the review. The programmer has added interruption after selection, then requires the fitted insert and recipe to be checked again. Tooling is keeping the family identification separate from the anti-reversal feature.

Will the shift lead see why it refused, or just get a red box?

The offline screen now distinguishes absent, unreadable and wrong-family identity, and the restart exercise no longer keeps the previous confirmation. Our shift lead could follow each case to the named contact. Prototype insert is still being made, so I have approved that prototype stage only.

Keep a partly seated correct-family insert in the physical checks. A successful identity read must not stand in for confirmation of the required seating.
