Door handle right where the wrist wants to go

I've been pricing an FR5 for our lathe and the drawing looked fine until I put the door handle back in, now I can't decide whether our proposed stand position is worth pursuing. We're loading aluminium blanks with fingers that project past the part.

Include the fingers open as well. Closed tool outline won't tell you whether it can let go inside the machine.

We only drew them closed, and the air fittings aren't on there either.

Get the actual tool assembly drawing. Mark the release position and the first withdrawal move. That's the bit I'd want checked before choosing the stand.

Toolmaker sent it over, the elbow fitting sticks out on the handle side which is a nuisance.

Can the tooling supplier route that fitting differently? Ask them, don't budget for a modification they haven't agreed.

I'd also draw the door in its actual open position. Our teaching cell drawing used the end of the rail; the door stopped before that.

Yes. Door stop, handle, anything attached to the inside face. Photograph it beside the measurements so the drawing reviewer knows what they're seeing.

The surprising part on ours was the removal path. A blank could go in nose first. The finished part had a flange and could not leave on the same path.

Our finished piece has a shoulder too, I'd sent the buyer's blank drawing and not the finished one.

We had to move a trolley every time someone changed jaws. Can I ask where your setter stands with that robot base there?

Send both part drawings. Tool open, tool closed, blank and finished part. A single reach line isn't much use now.

Setter normally comes in from the left, which is also where we'd put the stand, so I've marked his access space on the revised sheet.

That may decide the stand location before arm reach does. Leave room for the work people still have to do.

Who is checking the robot joint positions through that withdrawal? A clear tool outline at the fixture does not establish a usable route.

The integrator has agreed to check the whole sequence from a measured layout, I can't do that part myself tbh.

Did the fitting change buy you anything? I'm curious whether it was the small obstruction or the larger layout that won.

Give the setter the revision before it goes out. Ours spotted that we'd left space for him but not the jaw tray he carries.

And ask for the checked tool configuration in the handover. Otherwise someone can swap the fittings back during maintenance and wonder why it no longer fits.

Fitting change helped on paper but moving the stand forward helped more; setter wants a removable tray shelf, and we're waiting for the motion review before ordering anything.

Forward might affect the approach to the chuck. Let the review settle it. You have a useful layout now, at least.
