Our angle-bracket nest seats differently before the clamp acts

I'm holding the stronger-clamp proposal. The drilled aluminium brackets sit differently in our planned FR5 nest even before clamping, although every contact looks useful in CAD. Need to establish what is locating the part and what is fighting it.

Which contact changes between the bench samples, and are those samples within the drawing requirements?

Who is responsible for the nest's datum scheme? A clamp supplier won't necessarily own the location you end up forcing.

Toby, the upright face touches at different places while the bottom remains on its pads. Sample inspection isn't complete. Clara, our tool designer owns the location scheme; the stronger clamp was only a suggestion from purchasing.

I'd leave purchasing out of the diagnosis; more force is an expensive way to hide which contact won.

And retain the unforced observations alongside inspection, Carla, rather than testing only the sample that sits nicely.

Inspection has now checked the samples. All meet the relevant drawing limits, including the face variation. Our designer says the extra upper contact assumes a squareness the drawing doesn't require. He's looking at a relieved arrangement while keeping the intended location defined.

Does the proposed relief leave a defined constraint for each required movement, rather than simply letting the awkward sample settle somewhere?

Dinesh's question belongs on the design release too. Otherwise the handover becomes a photograph of the bracket everyone liked that afternoon.

Could the same checked samples be reseated independently after the revision, with their identities retained?

Dinesh and Clara, the revised drawing now identifies the remaining locating contacts and the released requirement they're meant to establish. Toby, we're keeping those same samples for repeated reseating. Tooling hasn't finished the revised nest yet.

Then the stronger clamp can stay unordered; you've found a drawing assumption, not demonstrated a finished fixture.
