Following my FR5 pallet-layout question, I've found the awkward bit is getting packaging and the finger designer to look at the same gap. One talks about the stiffened carton bottom, the other about withdrawal space. Both sound reasonable separately. Neither has explained how those two things coexist in the rotated layer. I don't want to buy detailed tooling and then discover our lovely new finger clearance is exactly where the carton needed support. Who has managed a useful early review of this without commissioning three finished designs first?
Can you put the packed carton bearing areas and proposed finger route on one section view? That would give both people one particular conflict to answer.
Yes, and that is the drawing I've requested. Packaging sent the bearing detail separately; the finger sketch only shows the box outline. They haven't been overlaid yet.
Mia, I'd want the project owner coordinating it, with packaging and tooling keeping their own technical approvals. One person cannot just vote the carton support requirement away.
Pavel, possibly, but let's not design a smaller layer before we've even drawn the support. There's a chance the first option can change without throwing capacity away.
Mia and Sara, I'm coordinating the review with both designers. Pavel, fewer per layer is an option to price, not a disaster by itself. Julia, agreed we need to see the actual conflict first.
Pavel, would you compare finished pallet counts as well as layer capacity? I have seen a lower layer count discussed without anyone checking what the actual orders need.
The section now shows the stiffened edge above one finger channel. Packaging won't accept that position as drawn. Tooling is considering a different channel arrangement; the lower-count alternative stays open too.
This is where my rough-section suggestion reaches its limit. Good for finding the clash, not a substitute for the fuller tool check Mia's asking about.
Pavel, I'd also want the packing operator's view before a preference becomes a decision. They may inherit different carton presentation or partial-pallet work in either arrangement.
