The replacement tray slides past our new locator

Same stock code, different rim shape. Stores is checking the purchase history. I hadn't noticed because the pockets look identical from above.

Did both come from the same source?

Different sources. Second one was bought as equivalent. I have changed my trial note from locator fixed pickup to locator worked with original tray.

Useful correction. Are operators able to tell the trays apart without turning them over?

I would want that answered before either tray goes back into general stores.

Would you hold the original tray too, Elliot? Even though Quinn's trial worked with it?

Both are still trial tooling. Omar Chan, stores has put visible temporary IDs on them. We haven't handed either arrangement over for production.

We had matching outer frames with different pocket offsets once. I'd compare the pockets from the locating feature, not only the two rims

Hassan, I'd keep the successful result, but I wouldn't expand it to more trays until the locating feature and variation are understood. One successful tray is still useful trial evidence.

Thanks, Quinn. Trial status wasn't clear to me from the opening.

Designer found that the second tray's pocket pattern is offset from the rim differently. The new locator can't compensate for that just by stopping the rim. We're discussing separate inserts.

Separate inserts could work, but the changeover needs to identify the tray and its matching setup. I'd compare that extra work with using one controlled tray type.

We're staying with the original tray type for the next trial. Second-source trays set aside. Buying two fixture setups for a small spare saving doesn't look worthwhile here.

Did you manage to get more of the original trays?

Quinn, I'd keep one rejected second-source tray for the incoming check comparison. A description of a slightly different rim is easy to misread
