our FR10 stand quote is ahead of the tool drawing

I have already asked for the complete gripper and measured open door on this aluminium-blank layout, but the supplier wants us to approve the stand position while their tool drawing is still unfinished; why would I freeze the one thing that may need moving?

I wouldn't freeze it. Is the stand quote explicitly provisional?

They may need a candidate position for the study. That is different from approval to manufacture the stand. Ask them which decision they actually need from you.

The purchase document should make that distinction too. A provisional position on an email can become a released stand on the order.

The drawing says proposed, but the email asks for approval to start the stand; that is exactly the mismatch bothering me.

On our access review, an assumed tool box was useful for discussion but not for approval, so I would ask which assumptions the unfinished assembly still contains before accepting any early fabrication.

Also put the setter's working space on the candidate layout now. We have a review arranged with the real changeover trolley because a clear robot route can still be a poor workstation.

Can the stand be quoted without ordering it? Seems the obvious middle ground.

Yes, Jamie, provided any price-validity limit is stated separately. A quote expiring does not make the geometry ready.

They will keep it as a quote and continue the access study from that candidate position; no stand order now, which should not have required quite this much correspondence.

Do their two tool options use the same adapter, or is the base-position comparison also carrying a different wrist assembly in each?

Chloe's question is worth settling on the drawings. Otherwise the cheaper option may acquire the other option's clearance result without anyone meaning to mislead you.

Different adapters; I had seen the two finger designs but missed that part, so each option is getting its own complete assembly reference.

Good. No borrowing the short adapter for the long-finger quote.

Toby, who will check the eventual delivered tooling against the assembly selected here? That task belongs in handover, not in your memory of these emails.

The lead integrator has accepted that check, and our setter will be in the review rather than receive a finished layout afterwards.

Does the review include getting the trolley into position as well as parking it? The turning space is easy to leave out when everyone is staring at the machine opening.

Keep the original stand quote tied to its candidate drawing, even if you abandon that position; it will explain a later price difference better than trying to remember which layout the cheap number belonged to.
