Bracket acceptance measured across two different edges

Our FR5 fixture review compares an old clamped check with a released bracket measurement, but the sketches seem to use different edges; I can't tell whether we've even shown the same dimension changing.

Check the drawing first. Which revision do those sketches belong to?

The production drawing is revision C, and both sketches say C, though the clamped sketch measures to the outside of the upright while the released one points to its inside face.

Then subtracting those numbers isn't a distortion measurement. Have you got a released check of the outside face anywhere?

Don't throw away the released check either, because if that inside face is outside its own requirement you still have a bracket problem, just not a measured before-and-after change.

Agreed, Anika. Two separate drawing requirements may both matter.

No outside-face reading after release, Nora; the inside-face reading is outside the revision C requirement, so Anika's point survives my rather hopeful discovery about the sketches.

I had a review where everyone argued about how much a bracket had sprung while the two photographs showed the rule against different faces. We eventually found a real released-part failure as well. Annoying, because both camps thought the bad comparison meant the other camp was completely wrong. Your next sample needs the intended measurements at defined stages, with the welding specialist deciding how those stages fit the process; don't let the robot purchase become the explanation for a bracket nobody has properly compared.

From the costing side, is the old correction operation documented against that failed inside-face check? I wouldn't price it out of the new job just because this particular comparison is unusable. It might still be work somebody has to do

And don't add more restraint from that comparison alone. That choice needs the fixture and process review, not our guess about which photograph looks straighter.

Amy, is inspection joining that review?

Inspection is joining, Pavel; Bruno, the old sheet says only 'corrected' before the final check, so I have a named operation but no reliable description or time for it.

Leave it as an unresolved allowance then. I can put a cost against an observed correction step later; giving it zero now would quietly answer a question your review hasn't answered

I've changed the lesson exercise as well, because I had asked the students to calculate movement from those two numbers; identifying why they can't do that is now the useful part.

Good exercise. Let them find the two faces before showing your conclusion.
