An approved bezel photo saved over its reject neighbour

I'm sorting room-light interference separately, but now our UR5e bezel folder has another treat: two thumbnails share one filename, and nobody agrees which is the reject. I want the originals back before more confident arrows appear.

Check whether the originals still exist outside that folder. Do not assign new quality labels by picking whichever thumbnail looks worse; identify the physical bezels and their decisions first.

Original camera exports are still there. The shared folder copy lost the camera suffix when somebody renamed it. I can recover the pictures, but the handwritten sample list is less cheerful.

Recovering the file is a good start. I would keep the overwritten copy as well until you understand which image the previous discussion was actually looking at. Otherwise an old comment can appear to describe a new picture.

How many physical bezels are you trying to untangle, Sofia? Two loose parts or a whole tray?

Four, all retained separately. Two names collided in the folder. Quality can identify the rejected bezel by the nick on its inner lip, which doesn't show in the thumbnail.

That sounds manageable, though the missing lip in the thumbnail might explain why everybody preferred arguing about the bright streak on the face.

Use the full images for that comparison. A thumbnail is useful for finding a file, not for deciding whether the lip inspection has been covered.

Quality matched the originals to all four parts. I have restored distinct names and their decisions. The shared-folder preview was showing the accepted face while the caption described the lip reject.

That is exactly the sort of mistake which survives because both halves look plausible on their own. Have you kept an explicit image-to-sample link, rather than asking the filename to explain everything?

And can your holder show that lip in the actual planned view? Correct caption won't get it out from behind a contact.

Callum: yes, sample identity and original capture are linked in the index. Grace: the lip is visible in the full view; it was the preview crop hiding it, not the holder.

Right, thanks. I was picturing a physical obstruction.

Did anybody who used the old folder get the corrected one, Sofia, or are you hoping they will happen to download it again?

I've sent it to the two people using it and withdrawn the old shared copy. One had already pasted the wrong preview into a slide. That's corrected too. The glamour of image work.

A small contact sheet with full views and sample identities may help them choose images without reopening the same ambiguity. Keep it separate from any cropped illustrations used for explanation.

Mia, that would help, but I would avoid another manually maintained version of the decisions. Let it point back to the checked index or it becomes the next stray answer key.

We've used a contact sheet pointing to the checked index, no second set of verdicts to maintain. The four parts, full captures and captions now agree. This folder repair is finished.

Agreed, Callum. I meant a way to find the correct image, not another authority on whether the part passes. Sofia's arrangement covers that.
