What exactly was refurbished on this FR10, apart from the description?

We're considering a used FR10 for a teaching bench. The advert says refurbished and inspected. I asked for the work list and received four glossy photos, one of which doesn't even show the controller. I'm not expecting a cheap used arm to arrive with its autobiography. I do need to know what's included, what was checked and whether anyone will support it once it's ours. The college has a transport quote ready, which is making this feel further along than it is. What would you establish remotely before paying someone to inspect it?

Get the included-equipment list first. No point pricing an inspection of a system they aren't actually selling as a complete system.

They say arm and controller, cables included. No identifiers yet. I've asked for label photos of each, not another wide shot.

Who would support it at your college?

Our usual integrator might. I haven't asked about this exact unit. That's going on the list before anyone books a vehicle.

Ask what refurbished meant too. Cleaning, replacing a damaged part and rebuilding a system are very different amounts of work. If no record exists, at least get them to say what they actually did.

And who did it. Previous owner inspected it is a different claim from dealer tested it.

We nearly bought a machine on the strength of a video that was older than its last repair. Ask when the demonstrated condition was recorded and whether anything has been changed or removed since.

Labels arrived. Our integrator can advise on an assessment, but wants the work history and a clear testing arrangement. Seller says cleaning and inspection, no repairs listed.

So refurbished currently means cleaned plus an unspecified inspection. Could still be a usable purchase, but I wouldn't add value for the word until the inspection becomes something you can examine.

Can they show the actual listed system operating?

They have a video, but it predates removal from the previous workshop. No operating demonstration at their warehouse offered so far.

Did your integrator price what they can assess there?

Initial inspection quoted. They are clear that it won't settle everything without suitable operational testing. I'm adding both stages and transport to the comparison.

That was the point where our cheap option stopped being obviously cheap. We still considered it, but we compared the complete route to a usable machine instead of the seller's number alone.

Does the seller accept any testing before the final sale decision, or are you expected to own all the uncertainty first? That affects whether paying for the initial visit makes sense.

They'll allow the initial visit, but won't agree further testing before payment. No change in price for that gap. College purchasing is less enthusiastic now.

Transport quote can wait, then.

I'd pause too. A ready vehicle isn't a reason to buy an unassessed robot.

Paused. Thanks for the support question, Lucy; our integrator's limitations were more useful than another round of polished photos. We haven't ruled it out, but nobody is collecting it on the current basis.

Let us know if the seller changes the testing offer. That would alter the comparison more than another reassuring adjective.
