Check the loaded module path through the normal launcher on both laptops, along with the interpreter, version and called signature. A folder inventory won't tell you what Python used. Preserve the old setup while your maintainer checks the supported controller and SDK pairing; don't start changing the network to fix an exception that happens before a connection is attempted.
