Visible cylinder, contact marks, no agreed inspection method (transferring finished cylindrical parts into trays)

Our gripper selection for Universal Robots UR5e handling an anodised aluminium sleeve during transferring finished cylindrical parts into trays in a finished-parts handling station needs a clearer comparison. Bench samples show marks on the visible cylindrical finish, and the supplier has proposed softer pads. Since we haven't agreed an appearance method, I'd like to establish one alongside an assessment of holding and release.

Does the customer have an appearance inspection method? Get that and the cosmetic zones on the drawing beside the samples before comparing pad materials

The exterior cylinder is labelled visible on the drawing. We've only got phone photos in workshop lighting, with no link to the customer's viewing procedure.

Request that procedure and compare handled samples with untouched references under it. A softer pad is worth including as a candidate to reduce marking

@PavelAdams0092 Softer pads can hold grit and drag on release. Your suggestion could sound like material softness is the main thing to optimise

You're right about the emphasis. The comparison needs contact geometry, representative contamination and release behaviour too. A softer pad doesn't get a presumed advantage

@PavelAdams0092 Would a marked sample and an untouched one from the same batch be enough to avoid blaming the gripper for incoming scratches?

@MeiBaker0516 It's useful, but take a before-contact photo of each handled sample as well. Two pieces from the same batch needn't have identical incoming marks.

@IsabelAli0213 I can frame the appearance comparison properly, though the samples don't yet support a contact choice. The review still needs to cover retention and release as well as finish.

That makes sense. A clearer finish comparison is progress, while retention and release remain part of the same selection decision
