Can this alternating pattern support the load it arranges?

I'm reviewing an alternating layer pattern for our planned stacking packed cartons onto dispatch pallets with Fairino FR10 in a small finished-goods dispatch area. Although the drawing fits the cartons neatly, a corrugated case of components has a preferred support direction and some rotated positions lie above gaps. I'd like a joint review of packaging support and tool access before accepting it.

Does your layer drawing show the load-bearing carton edges and pallet deck beneath them? Add those, then overlay the complete gripper outline.

@ChenBaker0442 My current layer drawing shows carton footprints and a tool centre point only. It hasn't incorporated the support direction specified in the carton documentation.

Give packaging and the integrator a drawing combining those details. A repeated unrotated layer is worth assessing alongside the alternating one because it may better suit the specified support direction.

Don't let simpler sound like approved. An unrotated layer still needs its load and stability assessed with the actual contents.

You're right to qualify the suggestion. I intended an alternative for comparison, with both patterns requiring packaging assessment of support and stability using the specified filled cartons.

I thought alternating layers always made a stronger stack. Is that too simple?

@EmmaBrown0898 That rule is too broad because changing the pattern changes the load paths. The packaging reviewer needs the carton construction and support geometry to assess the result.

I've overlaid the layers and can identify carton edges positioned above gaps. I can now show packaging the actual support condition that concerned me.

I had a separate dispatch setup where the carton top view omitted the pallet's deck gaps. Including the deck geometry exposed additional positions for packaging assessment.

Did you tie the pattern to a pallet specification? Ours just says pallet size, which now seems a bit thin.

@LeahBrown0930 Include the deck geometry in the pattern's pallet reference. Matching overall dimensions don't establish identical support beneath the carton arrangement.

@LeahBrown0930 Add the complete tool geometry and adjacent cartons at the corner positions. A tool-centre point alone can't establish whether the body or fingers overlap nearby packaging.

@ChenBaker0442 With the complete outline added, my offline layout shows a tool overlap with a neighbouring carton at one corner. I'll identify that specific position for the integrator's assessment.

Ask the review to include approach and release geometry. Even a clear final position wouldn't show that the tool can reach and leave it as required.

The drawings can now be framed around the relevant questions, although suitable support and access haven't both been established. Acceptance remains open pending their combined assessment.

That matches the outstanding work. Clearer drawings help, but support and access still need to agree in the assessment.
