our FR5 reaches the blank through an invisible door

The drawing for our proposed polymer-blank unloading exercise reaches the fixture neatly, but it leaves out both the gripper body and the open door. I'd like a useful classroom example of checking a layout, not a lesson in believing arrows. What would you put on the first marked-up view?

Show the tool holding the blank at the tightest visible part of the opening. Include the open door and its fittings. Students can identify an obvious clash there before discussing the less obvious route between positions.

Does the existing drawing show the blank fully extracted from the fixture? The doorway view alone may omit a restricted movement inside the machine.

Ella, it shows the blank still in the fixture and then outside the machine. Nothing between them. IsabelBell, I can use the doorway view as one check, provided I don't call it the whole check.

Ask the supplier who owns the finished access drawing as well, because a collection of your classroom annotations should not become the only version used to build the cell.

For the lesson, have students mark what is unknown in a different way from an observed clash. An omitted gripper is not automatically a gripper that cannot fit. It is missing information.

That distinction is worth teaching. I was about to put a red cross on the entire proposal, when what we actually know is that its reach claim is incomplete.

A simple list of missing geometry would be enough initially. Have you received a tool assembly drawing with a revision, or only the component brochure?

IsabelBell's point applies to cost too; I would not ask purchasing to price a different arm until someone has checked whether this complete arrangement fits.

Ella, only a gripper brochure. No adapter or fingers on an assembly drawing. Toby, I'll keep the arm comparison provisional rather than label this candidate rejected.

The brochure can show why the centreline is inadequate, but don't let students scale it as though it were the proposed assembly. Give them an explicitly incomplete exercise and ask what they would request.

Does the supplier's next review include the setter's access? That is another useful question for the exercise, even if the automatic withdrawal eventually clears the door.
