Nobody can explain the pencil marks on our bracket fixture

I'm sorting the fixture history before our UR5e welding work starts and found three pencil marks labelled summer, winter and heavy plate. Operators say those are clamp positions. Our inspection sheets just say corrected, which leaves the next shift guessing what to do

Can I ask whether those clamp positions change the actual locating faces, or just where pressure gets applied?

Pressure only from what I can see, the bracket sits against two fixed buttons

What dimension gets corrected after release? I can't tell whether the pencil marks concern angle or the position of the holes

Three seasonal marks are not a process history, though someone probably had a reason for each one.

The reason is what we're trying to recover. Can the person who drew them still be asked?

Yes, he's on leave this week; the rejected dimension is the distance between the upright faces, measured near the top

Then I'd ask him about that gap specifically when he's back, rather than asking for the whole history of the fixture

Inherited offsets. We had a stop moved to compensate for one batch of bent blanks, then everyone treated it as sacred. Find out whether the incoming pieces changed before giving the robot a correction to repeat.

A part looking square under clamps tells you surprisingly little. Are the old measurements from cold released parts, or did somebody measure while the assembly was still warm?

I'd like to know that too. Is there any measurement-stage field on the sheets?

NinaAllen0327

No stage field, but I found a second book with bench measurements and the same job numbers, so at least some can be paired

I was too dismissive about the history; matching job numbers are useful, provided corrected doesn't mean a measurement taken after somebody straightened the part.

That's exactly what corrected means on two sheets, I've put those aside from the untouched parts

Has the operator come back yet? I'm interested in what heavy plate meant to him

He says heavy plate was a different material thickness and should have had its own fixture sheet, winter was just when he drew that mark

There it is. Our mysterious night-shift setting turned out to be the name of the shift that found a worn locator. Have you got a usable history for the thickness you're actually automating?

NinaAllen0327

Only six uncorrected records match that thickness, we're using them to plan a proper trial with released measurements instead of copying any pencil mark

Who will write the result into the fixture sheet? Worth choosing that person before the trial gets busy
