I've got two UR5e tooling quotes for moving motor housings. Both assure me the part is light enough, but one drawing has an adapter and fingers reaching well past the other. What do I ask them to calculate for the actual loaded tool? My spreadsheet is currently comparing half a purchase.
Ask for the complete assembly mass and its centre of gravity referenced to the flange, plus the applicable load assessment for your planned movement. Include the adapter and fittings.
One supplier has now sent tool-only mass. Helpful, but the drawing doesn't show where the housing sits when held. I've asked for that position and the loaded figures... third time lucky, perhaps.
That held position matters. Have the integrator review the manufacturer's load limits using the complete geometry, including moment and inertia information where required, rather than approving it from total mass alone.
Send both suppliers the same receiving-fixture drawing too, otherwise the short fingers may win on paper by quietly failing to reach where yours need to go
Absolutely. We need a tool that can perform the job as well as meet the load requirements; cheaper fingers that stop outside the fixture are mostly decorative.
And let maintenance see those fittings before you buy. We had one buried behind the adapter, took ages to replace a perfectly ordinary hose because half the tool had to come off.
