I like the Microduck launch, probably more than is sensible. For a first personal robotics purchase, would you put the advertised $399 towards that, or towards parts for a little arm? I'd mainly be learning after work. I don't need it to earn its keep, but I'd like to do more than watch somebody else's demo.

Then enjoyment is a real requirement. I'd check what you can run and modify, and the delivery terms, before choosing. You don't need to invent a factory use for a hobby.
