I am reviewing changeover instructions for our planned FR5 housing cell. Two family inserts share mounting holes and both fit backwards. The proposed check is recognise the colour and select the recipe. I need something that checks the installed tooling, not the operator's memory of the stores shelf.
Separate family identity from orientation. Keying may prevent backwards installation, but if both families still fit the base you need to establish which one is physically fitted and compare it with the recipe.
Toolmaker proposes an asymmetric locating pin for orientation. Both families would still use that arrangement. Controls currently gets only a presence signal, so it cannot distinguish them.
Then presence isn't the family check. What identifies the actual insert after fitting? A scanned bin label could just tell you which box someone walked past.
No physical family identifier in the proposal yet. The colour belongs to the insert, but reading it is still a manual judgement. I've asked controls and tooling to define the installed check together.
Consider where any identifier remains visible or readable once the housing is present, because a perfectly clear mark on the loose insert may disappear under the part or retaining hardware.
Invalidate it on removal or an agreed changeover event, and require the installed identity to be checked again. Recipe changes need checking against the fitted family too, not merely when the base first becomes occupied.
Controls has added removal after confirmation and recipe change while occupied to the proposed tests. Physical identity method still being chosen. Orientation keying is a separate tooling change.
Have the toolmaker review damaged or poorly seated inserts as well; a family identifier should not be mistaken for proof that the insert is located and retained correctly.
And sort the spare bins. I'm not calling that your verification, but making two nearly identical families share a drawer is volunteering for extra changeover mistakes.
Separate bins agreed. Test list now covers wrong family, reversal, removal, recipe change and incomplete seating. No automatic use approved until the physical and control checks are designed and verified.
