Our pickup points keep needing nudges (Fairino FR5)

Our setup uses Fairino FR5 for tray loading with a rigid spacer block in a compact parts transfer workshop. We've repeatedly adjusted pickup points as handling becomes unreliable. Although the tray appears unchanged, the grip no longer looks as square. I'd like an inspection sequence that helps us identify the cause before making further teaching changes or attributing it to the arm.

Look at the relationship between the workpiece and fixture before contact, then during gripping. Can your existing observations show when the change in angle begins?

@ReeceBaker0471 In the footage, it sits consistently in the checked fixture and turns during gripping. So the crooked position isn't there at the start.

Keep a copy of the current configuration and hold off on further coordinate changes. Under the appropriate isolation procedure, maintenance can use the observed rotation to focus inspection on tooling contact, mounting and tray seating

I've checked the maintenance history and found a pad replacement preceding the initial pickup-point correction. That establishes a relevant sequence of changes to investigate.

That sounds like the pad replacement caused it. Check the installation against the specified arrangement

@ReeceBaker0471 Timing isn't enough to call it the cause. Check the pads, yes, but don't let one maintenance entry explain away fixture variation.

Agreed, I called it too early. Treat the replacement as a lead; verify installation and contact condition alongside tray location before assigning the cause

@ReeceBaker0471 My separate handling setup had both worn gripping surfaces and variation in tray seating. Coordinate corrections alone gave inconsistent results because they didn't address either underlying condition.

With multiple point changes already in our history, I'm unsure how to distinguish tooling and tray effects. How did you structure that comparison on your setup?

@JonasArcher0372 For my setup, a documented reference configuration anchored the investigation while maintenance assessed individual conditions. Discovering wear didn't mean we automatically restored older pickup coordinates.

Why not just go back to the original points once the gripper's checked? Aren't those the good ones?

Only if they match the verified setup. Tooling, frames or presentation may have changed; your responsible technician should compare the configuration before any supervised validation

@ReeceBaker0471 The relationship between the initial points and the present setup hasn't been verified. I'm retaining the current configuration instead of assuming the original positions would restore a known condition.

@JonasArcher0372 Good. Also, 'tray looks the same' isn't a seating measurement. Your pre-contact observation helps, but it doesn't cover every tray replacement.

@DineshBell0647 Our supervised comparison has identified variation in tray seating and wear on the contact surfaces. That gives us two observed conditions to address in the investigation.

Would you clean the pads or replace them? I can't tell where routine cleaning stops being enough.

Use the tool maker's maintenance criteria and a qualified inspection. Appearance alone won't tell you whether cleaning restores an acceptable contact surface

@ReeceBaker0471 The pre-contact and gripping observations have narrowed where the symptom develops. We haven't established an accepted remedy, so I'm holding further coordinate adjustments during the investigation.

You've located when the symptom appears, even though the remedy is still open
