The bracket passes after a step our training sheet skips

Our UR5e bracket plan has a training sheet that goes straight from fixture release to final inspection. The old route sends some brackets to a separate press first. I've asked about it and got 'the welder knew when'. What am I supposed to teach the next shift from that?

I'd ask the welder to show the decision, not just name the operation. We are untangling a similar missing step in a separate FR5 proposal. The final good result does not explain what happened before it.

He is still here. Says he looked across the two mounting faces after release and could spot the bad ones.

Take a sketch to that conversation. He can point at the faces he means instead of trying to turn years of habit into a neat sentence on demand.

Was there any gauge beside the press? Might help explain what he was looking for, though I would still ask him.

And ask quality how the press result was accepted. Or rather, where that check was recorded; the welder's selection and the final decision might have different owners.

Ella, I don't know about a gauge yet. Ada, quality signed the finished sheet. I've only got their final numbers.

Those numbers are still useful. Just keep the press step attached to them rather than presenting them as straight-from-fixture results.

Thanks, David. I was picturing a go/no-go check beside the press, but that is only a guess.

Keep a place for the press and its inspection work in the proposed route until the welding and quality people settle this; missing knowledge doesn't remove the work from the floor.

Jo, would you keep the old fixture as well? Ours is taking up space, but it is the only physical reference left for some of the notes.

Welder marked the two faces and showed the bench check. There is a comparison block, not a pass/fail gauge. He used it to see which way the upright leaned.

That sounds much easier to explain to a trainee. Quality still needs to give you the actual acceptance method; the comparison block can show the concern without becoming the tolerance by accident.

Ada, I'd retain it until the relevant contacts and alterations are understood and captured, or agree an equivalent reference with the designer before clearing it; I wouldn't scrap the only answer to a question still open.

Thanks, Jo. I'll raise that with our space planner, separately from David's training sheet.

Quality has now pointed me to inspection instruction Q6. It measures the released bracket on its base face after correction. We're adding the earlier selection step as something the new trial must define.

Does Q6 say where a bracket goes if it still fails? That is the bit I would get stuck on mid-shift.

Yes, to the quality hold area. No second correction unless quality and fabrication agree it. I've put that on the draft sheet too.

Will a different operator try following the draft with you? You've learned a lot that may still be living in your head rather than on that sheet.
