A lamp-shaped mark on our polished cover

I moved a lamp beside our UR5e camera mock-up and the alleged scratch followed it. We still have real scratched covers to detect. Not sure where to start with this image set.

Have you got the covers, or just their photos? Hard to sort this out if everyone's pointing at a white line on a screen and guessing.

I've got six covers. Two were rejected by our inspector before we took any pictures.

Start with those two and an accepted one. Keep track of which is which when you move the lamp, otherwise you'll spend the afternoon solving the filenames.

Are the rejects obvious by eye, Fiona?

I'd like to know that too. The big ugly scratch is probably not the one that'll give you grief later.

Keep the cover seated the same way for the first comparison. Then look at reseating separately. You can learn a fair bit with the mock-up before involving the robot presentation.

One obvious gouge. One faint line near a folded edge. That second one is a pain.

Tried fixed seating. Lamp stripe moves, gouge stays visible. Faint line vanishes in the nicest-looking image.

Keep the faint line in the comparison. Also confirm whether that folded edge is within the required cosmetic area; a good-looking central face does not settle the edge requirement.

It is. Customer sees that edge when the cover is fitted.

Useful detail, thanks. I'd missed that it stays visible in the assembly.

Then don't crop it out to make the pictures behave. Are you comparing another light position, or has someone already decided this one is the winner?

A second view might be worth discussing if one view cannot show both areas reliably. More work in the sequence, though. I'd exhaust the simple lighting comparison first.

I would add an accepted cover with a strong edge reflection to that comparison. Otherwise the extra view may reveal the faint reject but reject perfectly acceptable edges too.

Nobody's picked a winner. Borrowing a different lamp first; we haven't tested a second view yet.

Fair enough. Keep the ugly pictures as well. They're useful when someone later asks why you didn't just use the prettier setting.
