Our FR10 layer review contains two different filled cartons

I can't accept the current support comparison because the filled carton in packaging's photographs has a different internal insert from the one under the tool. Both carry the same outside product name. The rotated positions look fine in one set of pictures and doubtful in the other, so I want to find out what we're actually proposing to handle before this becomes a tooling order.

Can receiving tell those inserts apart without opening a carton? I mean identify the packed version from the supplied markings, not ask the operator to become the final packaging inspector.

Not from the outside label at present. One is an older packing arrangement. We have retained filled samples of both, which is how this came to light.

Ask packaging which filled version the proposed support assessment covers. Both retained samples are useful, but the common outside dimensions cannot settle their support needs.

Our old carton arrangement kept appearing after a change because dispatch used up stock. Is the older insert still expected in real work, Bruno?

Henry's question affects the tool review too. If both remain in use, the integrator needs to assess both intended combinations or define how an excluded one is kept out. A revised name alone will not do that.

Henry, yes, old stock is still being packed. Packaging wants the newer insert as the future standard, but purchasing hasn't agreed when the old supply stops.

Then I would not let future standard turn into current assumption. Could the first proposal be limited to a clearly identified new-stock batch while the old arrangement stays on its existing packing route?

That may be an option, Jamie, provided identification and separation are workable. Bruno has said the external label does not distinguish them. Somebody needs to solve that before claiming a limited batch is easy.

Exactly where ours went wrong. We had two stock codes in the office and one very convincing plain box at the station.

Jamie and Theo, receiving is looking at a distinguishable supply route for the new insert, not just a new code in the spreadsheet. The integrator is comparing both filled samples meanwhile. No decision to exclude the old one yet.

Keep support and release access attached to each sample identity in that comparison. It should be possible to tell which carton a favourable result refers to without recognising it from a photograph.

Thanks Henry, the plain-box example is exactly why I asked about receiving. A perfectly good office distinction can disappear before it reaches the person feeding the station.

Packaging has now restricted its earlier support comment to the newer insert. Tooling is still checking that version, while dispatch costs the separate old-stock route. We've lost the apparent universal answer, but it was never universal.

Does that separate route include returning part-used old stock at changeover? That was where our two versions found each other again.
