Can I retire the mystery packing strip under our bracket fixture?

Some have a released angle in pencil, but I can't link the readings to before or after the strip went in. Our paperwork has developed archaeology as a side business.

Keep those readings, but don't use them to prove the strip worked. Have you found a fixture revision or maintenance entry that dates the change?

Also check whether 'held square' refers to a gauge or a visual judgement. A short glossary of the old notation could make the records useful without implying more precision than they contain.

The released inspection needs its own reference too. A value written beside a clamped check does not tell us how the free part was supported for measurement.

Found the old setter. 'Held square' meant it touched a try square while clamped, not a final check. No one can date the strip change. Thanks for pushing on the wording.

That makes the limit clearer. Describe the strip as an undocumented setup feature, and have the fixture review establish the locating scheme rather than automatically copying or removing it.

That's what we're doing. I'm drawing the existing arrangement with the strip shown, then reviewing incoming fit-up and final inspection with quality before proposing a replacement fixture.

Will you include a photo of where the strip actually bears? That may be more useful to the next reviewer than its thickness alone.
