Trim plates rejected under one lamp and accepted under another

Both say normal visual inspection. Their lamps and viewing positions are different. No written comparison method.

Quality should settle the inspection method and the physical plate's decision before you make either inspector's caption the camera target. You can retain the disputed images without calling them accepted or rejected references yet.

I would also give that particular plate an identity and somewhere to live, because a discussion about one troublesome finish becomes harder when someone returns it to the production box.

Our own exercise had a genuinely accepted bright band beside a rejected lip mark. We kept both because a quiet-looking image was not enough to distinguish them. Your disputed plate may become useful even if quality accepts it.

Quality accepts the plate under the agreed viewing method. The broad streak was not a scratch.

What changed between the two inspectors' methods?

One tilted the plate until the overhead strip light reflected along the brush direction. The other didn't.

Does the agreed method now explain the viewing position well enough that a replacement inspector can use it, rather than needing either of those two people to demonstrate?

And keep the camera presentation separate from that physical judgement. It may need a different arrangement to reveal the required defects reliably, but it still has to respect the accepted finish.

Jamie, that's the awkward bit. Easy to hide the band and congratulate yourself while also hiding a real scratch. I'd want confirmed rejects beside this plate through the comparison.

Amara, the method has a setup photograph and quality checked it with another inspector. They agreed on this plate.
