Why did our FR10 vacuum trial get only the easiest carton?

The demonstration picked a smooth carton. Our packing bench gets corrugated cartons with seams, print and different board surfaces. I'm not a vacuum specialist; what should the supplier assess on our packed cartons before we accept that pickup concept?

Send representative filled cartons and identify the proposed contact regions, then ask for an assessment across the actual surfaces and loads, including how unreliable pickup would be detected and handled rather than only showing successful lifts.

We sent the supplier cartons from our normal incoming batches. Their controlled comparison found one seam position could not maintain their stated pickup condition. Smooth faces did better, but our present bench arrangement doesn't keep that seam out of the contact area.

Would controlling that orientation add sorting work for the packer, Toby, because the tool might become reliable only after somebody else makes the cartons unusually tidy?

Ravi, that is part of the concept comparison, and I would also ask who checks incoming board changes rather than treating the samples as every carton they will ever receive.

Thanks Ravi, our packer spotted the same extra turn-and-sort job. We're costing it against a different handling concept. The supplier has withdrawn the present unrestricted pickup claim and documented the seam failure; no tool choice yet.

That makes the decision more honest, though I would like to hear what the alternative needs from the packer before anyone declares it the easier option.
