Two inserts that fit either way round

Our proposed UR5e station has two similar sensor-cover nest inserts. Both fit the same base, apparently in either orientation. Recipe selection is manual. I want identity and orientation checked together before we automate this.

I'd get the tool designer to look at the mounting first. If the wrong insert or wrong orientation can be physically prevented, that's worth exploring. I'm not a nest designer, but a screen asking which one you fitted still depends on the same person choosing correctly twice.

Both inserts are on the bench. Reversed one fits the bolts but puts the cover pocket on the wrong side. Tooling is checking an asymmetric mounting feature.

Have them check the other family as well, not just reverse the correct one. And how will a replacement insert be identified when it comes from stores? The shiny new part is often where our tidy naming system falls apart.

Stores has separate item codes, but the descriptions were almost identical. They're being clarified. Controls is reviewing how the actual insert check relates to the recipe selection.

That sounds worth doing before a trial. I'd keep an intentionally wrong-family and reversed-insert case on the agreed test list so nobody demonstrates only the easy changeover.

What will happen if the insert check is unreadable? I would want that answered before accepting the changeover sequence.
