our bracket trend joins two different measurements

I've been given a chart to justify tighter restraint in an FR5 bracket fixture. Early points are a gap under a loose bracket on the bench. Later points are an angle measured with the bracket clamped. Someone converted both to a common scale, which makes a tidy trend line. I don't think we can read fixture drift from it. Would you keep either series for the design review?

Keep both, apart. The original observations may be useful even if the combined chart is not. Who can explain how that loose bracket was supported?

The former inspector can. He says the bench check used three supports, but the sketch only shows two.

Get him to mark the third. Otherwise somebody will recreate a different check and wonder why the old readings look wrong.

What made them switch to a clamped reading? I'd ask that before treating the later series as better evidence. Sometimes the check changes because it's quicker, not because it answers the same question more accurately.

It was quicker. The clamped check was introduced for fit-up, not final acceptance. Final inspection continued on a separate sheet that the chart author hadn't seen.

Inspector has drawn all three supports now. We're taking the chart apart and linking the final sheets by batch. Still no basis for the proposed extra restraint from these records.

Thanks for explaining the switch. I'd keep that explanation beside the separated series; it is exactly the detail someone may lose when they rebuild the chart later.
