Two protrusion groups in our lathe blank samples

Our hand-loaded aluminium blanks fall into two protrusion groups. The UR5e loading proposal assumes one stop position, but our sheet has no paired blank-length measurements to explain the split.

Measure each loose blank and keep its identity with its seated reading. Two groups alone won't tell you what changed.

We have retained the samples, although the earlier seated readings cannot be matched to individual blanks. New paired measurements are being arranged with the setter.

Don't quietly pair them by shortest to shortest. Seen that turn guesses into a very convincing spreadsheet

Will the setter also note which end meets the stop, particularly if the two ends are prepared differently?

Ravi, yes, ours once had a burr on only one end. Easy to miss from the front.

Maya, did the burr change the seating or was it just visible damage?

It held those samples off their stop. Not saying Jonas has the same cause.

Our paired measurements show two supplied blank lengths; the setter also found one damaged end, which is being kept separate rather than averaged into either group. The automatic-loading proposal remains on hold.

Has planning decided whether both lengths genuinely belong in this job, or did the stock arrive mixed?
