Our FR5 controller-area arrival damage needs an assessment plan

My FR5 sample-placement delivery has a crushed crate corner, displaced supports and visible damage near the controller enclosure. I have retained the packing and arrival photos and left it unpowered. Seller says switch it on, with no assessment procedure. I need a qualified review of the condition.

Ask the seller to name a qualified assessor and a damage-specific procedure. Your photographs and retained packing are useful; a general power-on suggestion does not establish the condition of the damaged equipment.

Include the displaced supports in that referral, not only the close-up of the enclosure damage.

Who is keeping the delivered equipment and packaging identified together while the enquiry runs, so the later reviewer can connect the close-up to the actual arrival?

Stores has both under the delivery reference. The photo set includes the crate, support positions and exterior damage. We have not opened the enclosure or attempted repair.

Has a technical person actually received that set, or is sales still the only contact?

Sales forwarded it and copied a service coordinator. The coordinator has acknowledged receipt but not nominated an assessor. I asked them to identify who will decide the inspection scope.

Ask when they will answer that nomination question. Forwarding is a correspondence step, not an inspection booking, and your installation planner should still see the equipment as awaiting assessment.

Have them say what further exterior information is missing instead of asking you to open things for a better picture.

And keep any account of movement since arrival with the record; it helps the assessor distinguish the documented delivered condition from later handling.

Assessor nominated. They reviewed the exterior set and asked to attend before proposing inspection work beyond it. The appointment is being arranged; nobody has authorised power or repair.

Is the visit for assessment only, or have they sent a repair proposal as well?

Keep those decisions separate. A service visit can establish a repair scope without authorising the proposed repair or releasing the setup for use.

Assessment only, confirmed. Purchasing will receive the findings with me. The visit is booked, and the installation team has the hold noted against our sample-placement plan.

Ask for findings and limitations, not merely a replacement-part quotation after the visit.

That will also tell maintenance what remains unexamined, rather than leave them to infer an inspection scope from whichever part appears on the quote.

Visit completed. The assessor documented the damaged enclosure area and identified further inspection needed under their procedure before defining the repair. We received the written findings; the setup remains unpowered.

Seller has now offered to arrange that further assessment. Purchasing is clarifying its scope and cost before agreeing. The initial suggestion to switch on is no longer their proposed next step.

Keep the assessment offer with the findings it is meant to address. That gives you a concrete next decision without treating the offer itself as evidence the damage has been resolved.
