our spacer length sheet mixes two different measurements

I'm helping plan UR5e loading for spacer blanks and have inherited a sheet headed stick-out. One person measured to the flat end, another to the edge of the chamfer. It has all been plotted as seating error. Before anyone redesigns the loader, I want a sensible hand-loaded comparison. We have the actual samples, thankfully. What would you put on the new sheet?

Which surface actually seats against the stop on these blanks?

The rear flat face. The opposite end has the chamfer which caused the mixed measurements. The drawing locates the finished feature from the rear face.

Record each blank's face-to-face length and repeat its seating measurement using one agreed reference.

Keep each sample identified. Did the old sheet mix repeated measurements of one blank with measurements of different blanks? That would make the chart even harder to read.

It did. Five blanks, some repeated, and the rows don't say which. I can't rescue that chart. We have asked inspection to set up a fresh comparison with named samples and one measurement method.

I have seen a class argue about machine repeatability while one student measured a burr and the next avoided it. Agree how to assess the end face as well as where the instrument goes. And do not make the new sheet so elaborate that nobody finishes it.

Who is doing the repeated loading for the comparison?

Our machinist is doing it with inspection. They are recording the same blank across repeats before changing samples, including its end-face condition. Thanks, Noah; that is a manageable sheet, not the monster I was drafting.

Fresh results show genuine length differences between blanks, but one identified blank also changes position across repeats. The mixed old chart hid both. The machinist is checking the stop and seating contacts before we decide what belongs in the loading trial.

Was that repeat variation still there with the same measuring person? Useful to know before you put all of it down to seating.
