The FR10 tooling for our assembly shells arrived with grooved contact pads. Trial photos show flat pads, and our agreed tooling sheet shows those too. Seller says the new ones are an improvement. Lovely, except we bought the result in the trial and nobody asked us about improving it. Pads are still off the tool while we sort this out.
Have they said what those grooves are meant to improve on your shells? Could be a reasonable change, but I'd want more than improved written beside a photo.
Then ask for the original pads as one option and an agreed sample trial of the replacements as another. Don't get boxed into defending why you ordered what you ordered.
Original pads apparently came from another fixture and weren't intended for supply. That's news to our signed sheet. I've asked the order contact to deal with that before we discuss testing extras.

Worth asking who can approve making the original pads now. The tooling person explaining the substitution may not be the person who can sort the order out.
