Start with the existing spacer job over an agreed order boundary. Then ask the study to price the proposed preparation, release, changeover and staff involvement against that same work, with a decision before pilot spending.

We agreed to compare one regular spacer order first. My colleague wants a limit on the hours they can be pulled away from production.

Put that limit in the study scope now. A small robot trial can become a large interruption if the fixture designer assumes your colleague is available whenever another sample is needed.

And keep the current method's interruptions in the baseline too. The comparison should not give either approach a conveniently uninterrupted best few minutes.

That is a much better discussion to have with your colleague. They can judge a defined piece of work instead of being asked to absorb whatever the arm price forgot.
