I'd have maintenance compare those pockets with the intended tray condition and retain the point history, so the person restoring presentation also knows which compensations have accumulated.

Compare a known spacer in both rows too. Otherwise different parts and different pockets can travel together through the check, leaving you with another convincing-looking coincidence.

Keep that check assigned to a named person and leave production status unchanged until it is completed; a delivered tray can otherwise become a completed repair in the planning sheet.

And don't bin the damaged inserts before their condition is recorded. You want the next complaint compared with a known failure, not with everybody's memory of a crooked block.
