Which face should our bracket inspection sheet use after unclamping?

I am helping prepare the fixture handover for an FR10 bracket cell. The old check sheet measures from the fixture base, while the drawing locates the finished bracket from its mounting face. A few old results simply say 'low after release'. How should I set out the comparison so we can tell whether the bracket changed shape or the measurement reference changed? I understand the robot program better than this part of the paperwork.

Sketch the two setups side by side. Put the actual contact faces on each sketch. 'Low' has quite a career when nobody writes down low relative to what.

The in-fixture check touches the top of the upright. The released check uses the same indicator, but the bracket sits on a surface plate. I cannot find a sketch of how they support it there.

Ask whoever made those readings to show you. The same indicator can report different things in different setups. Its familiarity doesn't rescue the comparison.

Which drawing revision are you trying to meet?

Revision D. The old check sheet cites B, so I have requested both drawings. I had only noticed the different supports before your question.

B has arrived. The mounting-face datum is unchanged, but D adds a flatness requirement there. That makes me less comfortable with assuming the part sits flat after release.

Have metrology define the released setup for D. You now have a specific question for them: how to establish that datum with the surface you actually have.

Please get a photo of the support arrangement when they settle it. We had a fixture discussion derailed by everyone imagining a different bench setup, and the person holding the indicator thought we all knew. I certainly didn't.

Do the old results identify individual brackets? I would struggle to pair before and after readings from a batch average.

Jane, did the old operator manage to show you their released check? Curious whether the missing support sketch was the whole problem.

They used a packing strip under one edge because some brackets rocked. The strip thickness wasn't recorded. Aaron, individual brackets are numbered on one sheet, but most results are batch summaries.

Metrology has drafted the revision D inspection setup and wants a fresh numbered set. We are keeping the old sheets as background. I cannot use them to calculate how far the brackets moved when released.

Did the fresh set get measured? I'd like to hear whether that rocking mounting face shows up consistently.
