How should we compare two FR10 housing tools with different offsets?

One supplier offers a longer finger set to reach our existing inspection nest. The other offers a shorter tool but expects us to move the nest support. Both summaries justify the FR10 from housing mass alone, so I have asked for their complete loaded-tool details. The support move is not agreed. How do I keep that uncertainty visible without throwing away a potentially useful option?

List the support change as part of that offer, with an owner and cost still to be agreed. Who is assessing whether the altered nest position works for inspection?

Our inspection lead. She has the proposed position but not a section showing the tool releasing the housing. That is now requested from the supplier.

We nearly bought a shorter tool on the assumption that a bench could move, then found its services were fixed through the floor... ask the person who actually looks after that support before the cheaper column becomes the favourite.

Unknown cost stays unknown. Don't put zero in because the spreadsheet wants a number.

Yes in the price, Amara, but not yet in the mass breakdown. Nora, maintenance has checked the support location; services can be rerouted, with that work added to the second offer.

Keep the actual loaded centre of gravity and other required load data tied to the quoted assembly as well. Your integrator needs those for the intended movement, not a supplier's housing-only summary.

Both are moving together. The release section shows the short tool fits, but the changed support puts the gauge access behind it. Inspection has rejected that position. The supplier is offering a further support revision, not a finished solution.

That was why I asked, Anika; endless redesign isn't free either, even before anyone cuts metal.

The revised support restores gauge access, but it needs a larger base and costs more than the long-tool option. Both complete loaded assemblies are now with the integrator for assessment.

Does the longer assembly leave room for the empty tool to withdraw and for the nest to be changed? Those could still decide it even if the load assessment is satisfactory.

The long-tool model covers both, with inspection and maintenance accepting the access. The integrator has accepted its defined load and motion proposal. We have chosen it and dropped the support move from this purchase.

Yes, the order identifies that assembly and the existing nest revision, with installation and acceptance work included. Thanks, Amara. The generic lightweight-gripper description has been replaced.

Good to hear the existing nest won for an actual reason, rather than just being the thing nobody wanted to move.
