Our FR5 panel seal report leaves separation and delivery unanswered

I'm reviewing vacuum transfer of flexible stainless cover panels from a stack into a nest. The proposed FR5 tool has a bench seal report, but I need support during movement and confirmation that one panel is delivered. What can we establish before paying for a full handling trial?

Find out exactly what supported the panel in the bench test. A seal on a supported sheet does not describe its shape while carried.

Ask for the proposed separation, single-panel confirmation and uncertain-pickup response together. The application assessment needs all three; choosing a detector is not enough if its ambiguous result has no defined response.

I would get the tool and nest designers looking at the same sequence first. What supports the panel as it leaves the stack, what supports it in transit, and what takes over at release? That may expose an incompatible assumption without running the arm at all. The bench seal can remain useful evidence of that limited condition while those other questions are answered.

The report used a panel resting on the bench. It contains no separation attempt. Our proposed nest only appears in the layout, not in the test.

What is the required panel condition after release, and how will it be judged independently of the supported shape on the tool?

Include actual stack conditions in the proposed trial. A hand-separated panel would remove the very uncertainty you need assessed.

Priya's question matters to the static review as well. If the nest only supports the corners while the tool proposal assumes broad support until the panel is fully seated, there is a handover to explain. I am not saying that is your geometry; I want both designers to show it rather than each drawing a finished state that looks fine alone.

Also show the complete panel envelope through the route. Support and clearance cannot be assessed from the tool-centre line alone.

We did that joint drawing review. The tool's proposed release support and the nest's available support do not overlap as assumed. We have a specific transfer-of-support gap to redesign before a powered trial.

Does that rule out the tool, or only the tool-and-nest arrangement currently drawn?

The arrangement as drawn. We haven't shown the tool itself unsuitable. The designers are comparing a nest change with a different release arrangement.

Keep the released-condition criteria unchanged while comparing those options, unless the product owner explicitly changes the requirement too.

That is useful progress from a drawing meeting. I would still keep stack separation on a separate open line; fixing the handover support does not tell you whether one panel or two came off the stack. Both can be covered by the eventual trial, but one successful change must not close the other question by association.

Agreed. Include the assessed response to uncertain pickup and loss of hold in the trial scope, without deliberately creating unsafe conditions to demonstrate it.

The revised nest option now carries the panel through the proposed release on the shared drawing. We have selected it for further assessment, not for production. Single-panel confirmation and the physical comparison remain in the trial scope.

Has the drawing change affected access for loading or clearing the nest?

Have the person doing those tasks check that now, Amy. Extra support can occupy the space a handover or recovery task needs. The right answer is the complete usable arrangement, not whichever drawing has the most contact underneath the panel.

Operator access is still being checked, so we aren't ordering the revised nest yet. The initial review was worth doing: it found a real mismatch without turning a bench seal into a whole-cell claim.
