Rotating the middle cartons leaves their ends hanging

Our pallet drawing for a proposed FR10 station has a tidy interlocked layer, but I laid two paper layers over each other and the ends of the middle cartons sit over gaps. We pack spare-part kits in these cartons, and I don't know whether the neat pattern is actually supporting them where it should.

Try marking the carton support areas on those paper layers before anyone orders tooling, the outer rectangle isn't telling you much about what's underneath

I've asked packaging for the support guidance because the arrow on our carton drawing only identifies the label face, which I'd been reading as the stacking direction.

Yep, label direction and load support aren't interchangeable, though your overlay still found a question worth asking

What happens when a damaged carton is removed from the pattern? Our packers used to rebuild the top layer by eye, which was where the approved drawing quietly stopped being relevant.

That's a recovery procedure to settle later, first they need a pattern packaging can accept or they'll be writing instructions for a bad stack

Settle both before handover. Recovery isn't an optional extra for the packer to invent.

Fair correction, I meant don't let the recovery discussion replace the support check, not leave it until somebody has a collapsed load

Packaging has rejected two of the rotated positions on the current drawing, and we're trying a simpler layer while the integrator checks whether the tool can release it.

Check withdrawal as well. A released carton can still be nudged by the tool.

The tool supplier wants a little more space beside the centre cartons for withdrawal, so the first simpler layer won't work unchanged either.

Worth finding now. Who decides between fewer cartons and a different tool arrangement?

And cost both options with dispatch involved, fewer cartons per pallet can look cheap until the extra handling turns up

Our packing lead is bringing dispatch and the tool supplier into the same review; I hadn't appreciated that each small fix was moving the problem to somebody else's drawing.

We've picked a lower-count pattern for a supervised packaging trial, but we haven't accepted it for production; the paperwork now shows the actual carton support and the tool clearance together.

How did the trial go, especially those centre cartons after handling? Curious whether the fewer-carton option stayed the favourite once dispatch had a look
