Am I comparing puck handlers or buying the nicer tray?

For a new FR5 puck-loading comparison, one demo uses a purpose-made tray and the other our awkward workshop tray. I like the first result, but can't tell what I'm liking.

What looks better: fewer misses, easier loading, or just faster movement?

Price the purpose-made tray as part of that option rather than insisting every candidate inherit your old one, because a better tray can be a perfectly reasonable purchase

Maya, faster movement and less attention from the demonstrator. No comparable miss totals. Dinesh, I'm open to new trays if their preparation doesn't become our new job.

I'm with Dinesh. Same input conditions for judging the arms, yes. But you're buying a working arrangement, not awarding a medal to an arm.

Rebecca, the less-attention claim still needs a look at what happened before filming.

Who loaded the purpose-made tray, Ben? Could the same person show a change to the next tray in the comparison?

Toby's changeover question is useful, and include empty trays coming back to preparation or the nice new tray can become quite an expensive queue

Maya, absolutely. I meant don't reject new trays merely because the demos used different ones. We still need the whole arrangement priced and tried.

Toby, their technician loaded it. I've asked for replenishment and tray exchange as well as the transfer clip. Thanks for naming the changeover, that was missing from my request.

On nights we once had enough trays for the demonstration and not enough while parts waited for the next operation. Does your quantity estimate include that waiting time?

Exactly, Toby, size the tray pool around the actual flow and turnaround before comparing unit prices

The supplier will quote a tray pool but wants our turnaround estimate. We hadn't measured it. The other supplier will also quote a dedicated tray option now.

That's turned into a different comparison, in a useful way. Just don't lose the existing-tray price while both offers acquire nicer accessories.

Ben, are both also showing an interrupted transfer? Smooth runs won't tell you who gets called.

Maya, I'd want the operator in that demonstration. A supplier technician can make recovery look obvious without saying what they're deciding.

And give the demonstration a common start and finish, otherwise a recovery starting after someone has rearranged the tray dodges the awkward part again

Recovery is in both requests, with our operator invited. No revised videos yet. The new-tray prices alone won't decide this; I'm waiting on the handling and turnaround work too.

Toby, how did you eventually count your tray pool? Did you track the trays themselves or use the waiting-job list?

We marked the trays and followed them, including the ones people had put aside. The job list missed those. Not very glamorous, but it explained why the supposedly generous spare pile kept vanishing.
