Just caught up with November's collaboration announcement. I can write a bit of Python; I don't have a robotics lab. The picture makes the setup look fairly approachable, then I hit all the simulation terminology and get lost. What's a sensible first evening with this stuff before I buy any hardware?

Yep. I'd write down the camera view, joint values and expected output in plain English. If you can't explain what the model is being asked to predict, a faster GPU won't clear it up.
