the failed request gets a green badge anyway

I sat beside an operator looking at our FR5 status screen while the developer unplugged the diagnostic connection for a test. The badge stayed green. Apparently the newer SDK returns a nonempty object even when the request failed, and our wrapper is delighted to receive literally anything. We're fixing that check. But I also want a sensible display for the last good value, errors and something the wrapper doesn't recognise. Where would you put the version-specific parsing so the screen doesn't need to know which laptop it's running on? This is getting ridiculous to explain to the people meant to use it.
