Do the cartons need the space our gripper wants to leave?

I'm buying tooling for an FR10 pallet proposal and have two approved drawings that disagree about the gaps. Packaging wants the cases close enough to support the rotated layer; the finger drawing needs room between them. What would you ask both teams to demonstrate before I approve either purchase?
