I added a tray locator to our UR5e spacer-loading setup and reported more consistent pickups in the supervised run. A replacement tray then produced another miss. I would like to update the result without claiming either that the locator solved everything or that it did nothing.
Say which trays and conditions were included in the improved run, then describe the replacement-tray miss separately. Did you observe any difference in how that replacement seated against the locator?
The original run used one identified tray. During inspection the replacement sat against the side stop but left a visible gap at the rear locator. The original did not leave that gap.
That's useful detail. I wouldn't call them interchangeable merely because the outside dimensions match. Have stores and tooling compare the locating features before another identical-looking tray joins the trial.
They found two tray revisions under one stock description. The replacement has a changed recess. More precisely, that establishes a geometry difference, not yet why the pickup missed.
Keep that distinction in the update. The locator result applies to the tray you tested; the changed recess gives the tooling person a concrete compatibility question to assess.
Our shift used to say same tray whenever the colour matched. Then somebody brought two to the bench together and the locating details were plainly different. A side-by-side photo helped the next person more than a longer description.
Stores has separated them and tooling is reviewing the locator against both. We have not decided whether to support both revisions or standardise on one.
Could standardising leave someone without enough trays during cleaning? Worth asking before the simpler technical option creates a shortage on the shift.
Farah, when you compare those options, include that tray availability question as well as locating compatibility. Imran is right that the easier drawing is not automatically the easier working arrangement.
