How do I compare softer pads when we disagree about the marks?

Our FR10 trial leaves faint bands on finished collars. Supplier suggests softer pads. Who decides whether those bands pass?

Who owns the finished collar's appearance acceptance now? Start with that person and actual samples. The gripper supplier can propose contact changes, but the new process should not invent its own easier standard

Quality owns it. Our two inspectors viewed the collars under different lights

Have them agree the viewing conditions and retain representative samples, including the faint bands, before asking the supplier to demonstrate an improvement.

And inspect a sample before gripping it. A polished collar can arrive with marks; otherwise the gripper gets blamed for the entire journey.

We didn't do before photos. We have untouched collars from that lot, though

Use those to plan a paired trial, with each collar checked before and after. Untouched neighbours give useful background, but they cannot tell you which marks were already on a specific handled piece

What does softer mean in their proposal? I would want an identified pad material and geometry, not a sample of something pleasant to squeeze that nobody can reorder when it wears.

Only a material description so far. Asked for the actual pad reference

Don't forget release. We tried a pad that looked kind to the finish and then kept the part when we wanted it gone. Different job, but worth including.

Quality has agreed the viewing setup. Supplier will compare identified pads, including holding and release. No winner yet

Include the person who changes worn pads in that trial review, so the eventual replacement method preserves the contact arrangement you approve.
