I watched our UR5e tooling supplier lift a single stainless cover off a bench and it looked tidy, but ours arrive nested together and the corners are floppy; what do we need them to show before I tell maintenance this is a workable stack-to-nest job?
Request a supervised trial with representative stacks. Cover single-sheet separation, panel support through transfer and release into the nest. The bench test addresses sealing on one panel only.
They used our panel for the seal test but not our stack; I've asked them to include the actual supply condition, including the occasional sheets that stick together.
Ask how a double pickup will be detected and handled within the approved system design. Vacuum achieved does not by itself establish that exactly one sheet is present.
Their first answer was that the vacuum reading would tell them. I asked for evidence of that with two stuck covers and they are reviewing it with the tooling engineer.
That review needs representative double-sheet cases and defined detection criteria. Do not accept the assumption simply because the single-sheet test passed.
What support is provided between the cups, and how will deformation be judged at the nest? The cover could remain attached while flexing enough to interfere with placement or damage the finish.
Include the actual panel variation in that assessment. A stiff sample from the top of the pile may not represent the least supported cover you expect to handle.
Our training rig held its sheet beautifully and then struggled to let it go squarely. Include release, not just the trip across. And get the recovery described for a stuck or doubled sheet so that job doesn't land on whoever happens to be nearby.
Has the supplier sent a revised trial scope covering those points? Separation, support and release should have distinct observations and acceptance criteria.
Yes, draft arrived. It includes stuck pairs and a supported transfer review, but release just says 'places successfully', so I've asked how they'll judge seating and any marks afterwards.
It didn't. Added a refill walkthrough with our operator, thanks. We're still agreeing the trial; no automatic stack handling has been signed off from that original seal test.
Keep the original sealing result in its proper scope. It remains useful evidence for one aspect of the tool, even though the application needs these further checks.
