Soft pads made a shiny stripe on my sample collars

I need a way to judge contact marks before we buy fingers for our FR5. We tried padded jaws on finished collars and got a shiny stripe that only shows under the packing bench light. Also one collar followed the jaw back out of its nest. I don't want the operator polishing every part.

Softer isn't automatically kinder. Dirt held in a pad can still mark a finish, and tacky contact can complicate release. Agree the visual acceptance conditions with whoever accepts the product, then compare clean samples before and after handling. Include reliable release in that trial. Can you use a non-cosmetic contact area?

There is a recessed inside shoulder we can ask the toolmaker about. I'll take accepted and marked pieces to quality under the same light first. The sticking happened with a fresh pad too, so I want that tested separately from surface appearance.
