Can our FR5 finger channels coexist with the carton support rails?

I'm looking at an FR5 pallet proposal where the carton has two reinforced strips underneath, but in the rotated layer one strip lands over the channel left for the fingers. The top view looks excellent, which is perhaps why everyone likes showing me the top view. What should I ask the two designers to compare before approving it?

Ask for sections through both strips and the finger path. Use the packed carton, not an empty box outline. Packaging needs to say what support it requires and tooling needs to show the complete withdrawal, with the same pattern revision in front of both teams.

I've got pattern P2 and the packaging sheet here. The sheet identifies both strips as required support. The finger drawing only shows the tool closed, so withdrawal is a useful addition to my request.

Then P2 has an unanswered support conflict. Ask them for alternatives, not just a nicer rendering of that one. A lower-count layer is worth comparing if it lets the support and tool path coexist.

Include handling cost for the alternatives. Losing cartons per pallet is a pain, but so is adding a special sheet or another preparation job.

And don't assume a sheet would bridge the gap. Packaging would need to assess that proposal with the real load. It is another design option, not a blank permission slip.

They have proposed a lower-count layer with both strips supported and a second option using a different tool approach. No sheet proposed. Ella, I've asked dispatch to compare pallet handling while tooling checks the full motion for each option.

Which option does dispatch prefer once they have priced it? Interested whether the fuller pallet actually saves enough to justify the tool change.
