The faceplate gains a bright line when someone stands beside it

I was sorting images for our planned FR5 inspection and found two captures of the same faceplate, one apparently clean and one with a lovely bright scratch. Except quality cannot find that scratch on the plate. The camera person remembers someone standing beside the bench for the second capture. We've got the physical plate and both full images. Before this becomes another threshold discussion, I'd like to find out what changed in the picture.

Start by stopping that image being used as a confirmed scratch. Someone standing nearby is a lead to investigate, not yet the explanation. Is there an agreed marked plate available beside this one?

Yes, quality has a faceplate with a small accepted reject mark near the edge. I have put both aside for the comparison. The questionable image is now marked unconfirmed.

Was the plate moved between those captures?

Keep the bench arrangement with the images. If the comparison finds something useful, the next person needs more than two photographs called before and after. Include which faceplate was in the holder and which lighting was used.

Ella, it was removed and reloaded. So we changed the presentation and possibly the surroundings. I was about to blame the person standing there because it made a good story.

We got our holder sitting properly and still had a lighting problem, so I'd check the reload first without expecting it to explain every bright line.

Mia, agreed. Ravi, can the camera person repeat the static comparison while keeping the plate seated, then compare normal reloads separately?

They did the fixed-plate comparison. A light-coloured board held outside the inspected area creates the bright band in much the same place. Moving the board moves the band. Quality still finds no physical mark there.

And the reload comparison?

Reloads vary the band slightly, but the seating checks were consistent. The larger change came from what was reflected beside the bench. Camera engineer is proposing screening that side.

Will that screen leave the loader able to see the seating contacts? A useful lighting change should not make fitting the faceplate a blind task.

Jasper, worth checking, though the screening could be away from the holder rather than around it, depending on their arrangement.

Where are they proposing it, Ravi?

Beside the bench, away from the loading opening. The loader can still see the contacts in the proposed arrangement. Nothing is being wrapped around the tool or faceplate.

Try the real reject with that arrangement too. Getting rid of the distracting band only helps if the edge mark remains visible.

Both compared. Screening reduces the band across repeated static captures, and the known edge mark is still visible. Quality has removed the scratch label from the unmarked faceplate's old image.

That's a useful comparison. Does the proposed station have the same surrounding surfaces as this bench, or will the reflections change again when it moves?

Different surroundings at the station. We are carrying the screening proposal and both sample plates into that review, not declaring the bench pictures a finished inspection. Thanks, Gabriel, the real reject nearly got left out.

Keep the original unmarked plate as well. It is now an example of a surface that produced a false label, which will be useful when somebody changes the station lighting later.

Has anyone told the person who was standing there they're acquitted?
